Raisha's Story

I have spent a large part of my life as a teacher, helping others improve the physical appearance of their bodies.  Although I was helping others make physical transformations, I felt like there was something missing.  In my search for an answer, yoga classes led me to a yoga teacher training.  On a very deep level, I knew I was on the right track.
After extensive training and several certifications with gifted yoga teachers, I still yearned for the answer to 'what is yoga' and why does it have the effects that it does. There are so many versions of yoga offered today.  I was still left asking these same questions.  I wanted to know more about the essence of this ancient practice.  In 2011, I found a book that changed my life, titled The Fire of Love, written by Aadil Palkhivala.  The book finally gave me the answers to why yoga can have a transformative effect on one€™s life.  Now armed with the knowledge of '
why', I needed to learn the tools of 'how'€™; how do I apply these principles, and what techniques can I learn to make a difference in my life.

I enrolled in training at the College of Purna Yoga, co-founded by Aadil Palkhivala and Savitri, creator of Heartfull TM Meditation.  I began to learn the tools of how to listen to the messages of my heart.  I learned that happiness and fulfillment were not external, but could only be found by looking inward.   To be able to grow, to see things in another perspective, to let go of judgment of myself and others were byproducts of the emotional, mental, and spiritual parts of me as well.  The movement part of yoga, which is often focused on today, is a very small part of yoga.  In our culture, it has become the most important part.  Purna Yoga's aim is to reveal and restore the lost essence of yoga and educate us how to incorporate these teachings into our daily life.

Through my own path of learning, I have made a commitment of teaching what I have learned.  There is a joy for me in sharing these tools.  Through my own experiences, I hope to empower students to improve and influence their own life through a journey of self-discovery and healing, reaching their highest potential.
Walking into a yoga class, especially as a brand new student, can be very overwhelming.  My aim is to make everyone comfortable in a safe and loving environment while teaching what I believe to be the most complete yoga system available.
